Shopify - Aftership - Api for printing Labels and Invoices

We use Aftership Shipping in a Shopify store. Everything works well - labels and invoices are printed fine, except for the invoice number (we use the order number), shipping fees and taxes not being printed on the commercial invoice when we use their app interface.
I have contacted Aftership tech support and they tell me the only way to accomplish this is via API. They provided the code but it is beyond my ability to implement correctly. I didn't even try to.
Basically your mission is to implement the API code so we can print the shipping labels and the commercial invoices with the order number, shipping fees and tax (when applicable) as the invoice number.
