English-Spanish Translator & Proofreader (Native Spanish Speaker)

We are seeking a talented English-Spanish translator who is also skilled in proofreading, with a focus on children's literature. The ideal candidate will be a native Spanish speaker with a keen eye for detail and a passion for ensuring that translated content is both accurate and engaging for young readers. This is a long-term project involving the translation and proofreading of at least 10 children's fairy tale books.

Key Responsibilities:

- Translating children's books from English to Spanish with a focus on maintaining the original tone and style.
- Correcting any grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors in the translated text.
- Ensuring that the translation is age-appropriate and engaging for children of various age groups.
- Improving sentence flow and readability while preserving the original meaning.
- Rephrasing any content as needed to ensure originality and cultural relevance.
- Verifying facts to ensure accuracy and consistency in the translated text.
- Providing a proofread copy with tracked changes (preferably using Suggesting mode in Google Docs).

Requirements:

- Native speaker of the Spanish language + English (native, fluent, or bilingual)
- Proven experience in translating and proofreading children's books, particularly fairy tales (portfolio required).
- Strong attention to detail and consistency in both translation and proofreading.
- Ability to communicate feedback effectively and collaborate with our team.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Proficiency in both English and Spanish languages, Spanish has to be a native language.
- Experience in translating and proofreading children's literature.
- Familiarity with the unique requirements of children's books, such as age-appropriate language and engaging storytelling.
- Interest in long-term collaboration.
