Backup mysql con Php en localhost y server de producción

Estoy intentando hacer un backup de la base de datos mysql de una aplicación en php, con muy poca data. Lo tengo en localhost de xampp.
Tengo el código hecho pero el fichero .sql siempre se genera vacío.
Primero necesito que funcione en mi local y luego probarlo en el server de producción para verificar si ha quedado bien.
