Job Description: Chinese Cantonese Medical Interpreter (Independent Contractor, Remote)

KangarooHealth, Inc. Is a rapidly growing healthcare technology company specializing in Remote Patient Monitoring supporting hospitals and physician practices. We are searching for an experienced Chinese Cantonese Interpreter to be available anytime from Monday - Friday 9-6 pm EST. This role will be an on-demand service; Time needed will vary daily, based on patients’ interpretation needs over the phone. As an interpreter, you will conduct medical and general interpreting/translating for the patient care staff and for patients and their families. You will act as a cultural consultant to staff and as advocate for non-English speaking patients/families.

Tasks

• Interpret phone calls and other verbal communications between medical staff and patients into another language (mostly between English and Cantonese/Mandarin), with careful attention to providing proper context, meaning, tone and technical wording.
• Provide over-the-phone, video relay, and other telephonic interpretation services on an as needed basis.
• Honor HIPAA and other related ethical codes to ensure sensitive and confidential information remains secure and protected.
• Identify terms and words with conflicting meanings to determine which alternative provides clarity and reflects the original purpose of the message.
• Analyze audience members and listen to debriefings on what materials will be translated, to best assess how to present interpreted data.

Language & experience requirements:

• Native speaker fluent in Cantonese: Mandarin and Fujol speaking is a bonus on top of Cantonese.
• Experience in specific verticals.
• High proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Previous interpretation experience.
